Difference between Rail and Train

Main Difference

Both of these are used for traveling purpose. Many people in this world travel on trains. They even use other methods of transportation. Trains being very common though. The main differences between these two words, is quite visible. Rail refers to not only the train but the track in which the train runs. Rail is actually those huge metal bars fixed in the middle by bars. It’s denotes the compete infrastructure of the railway. While on the other hand, trains are the vehicles. They are the mode of transportation. When someone say “Train”, that person is not talking about the infrastructure of the railway. Instead, he’s talking exclusive about the vehicle. No doubt, trains are very fast and very useful in covering large distances very conveniently.

Rail

railRail is a system of railway tracks and all the infrastructure. Two metal bars run along each other, parallel, joined by various metal bars in the middle. On these rails, the train runs. Very fast indeed. Rails are static, they do not move unlike trains. Train move over rails, against friction and produces a lot of heat energy. Rails are usually rusted and eroded due to the heavy weight of trains and because of the heat combustion. The engine is very hot, and the increasing hear coming out of the train hit the rails. Metal is a good conductor of heat and rails are made up of metal, so they become extremely hot, especially when a train is running on it.

Train

trainTrain is an exclusive mobile vehicle, of course. It is best for covering all distances. Trains cover small distances in a jiffy. Trains run smoothly and fast, without any inconvenience, unlike buses and other public transport. Unlike other public vehicles, train do not apply brakes, every now and then. People tend to travel more on trains rather than using other public transport. There is no traffic problem, too. This add to the perks of traveling in a train. Huge steam engine provides energy to the trains. Apart from these heat engines, now a days, there are electric trains also. They are also capable of covering large distances. They do not make that much noise as well.

Key Differences

  • Rails are metal bars connected together but trains run over it.
  • Rail is not mobile, train is. It is actually a vehicle opted by so many people around the world for their transportation.
  • Rail provides a safe route to trains. While trains run over those rails in a very fast speed, covering huge distances.
  • Now a days, unlike traditional days, there are monorails as well. They provide with less expenditure of energy like Maglev trains.
  • Rails are rusted and eroded due to the heat energy produced by trains.
